Welcome to Nynäshamn, the community by the sea, where spectacular seascapes meet a flourishing, friendly town only a half hour drive from Stockholm. Here you find a million things to see and do within easy reach.
Nynäshamn offers a variety of local foods and restaurants. Locally produced beer, chocolate truffles from the chocolate factory in town and handmade sausages are some of the products that can be found here.
The smokehouse, centrally situated in the fishing harbour, is a must-visit during a stay in Nynäshamn. Buy delicacies such as smoked salmon and pickled herring or sit down in the restaurant and try the homemade fish soup. Another specialty from the district is the mythical Sorunda cake. It has a long history and is made from a secret recipe that passes on from generation to generation.
Nynäshamn offers a wide choice of places to stay: hotels, bed and breakfasts, camping sites and cottages. If you are travelling by boat, Nynäshamn has a centrally located guest harbour that is considered to be one of the best in Sweden. You also find a guest harbour at the island of Öja.
With 1000 kilometers of coastline, hundreds of islands and a thriving countryside just outside the town, Nynäshamn has a lot of activities to offer. The road, rail and ferry network provides good access to all visitor destinations. Many people come here to explore the archipelago. The easiest way to do that is to catch one of the Waxholm ferries. The company offers ferry routes all year round to the islands of Landsort, Nåttarö and Ålö.
Nynäshamn is also a paradise for watersport adventurers. You can go on a kayaking trip around the islands, dive among sunken wrecks in the Baltic Sea, learn more about the surroundings on a guided tour by boat or enjoy the waves on Torö Stenstrand, well known for having Sweden’s best opportunities for surfing.
If you rather stay on land, it is a good idea to explore the landscape by walking. You will find nature reserves and hiking trails within easy reach. For a view of the sea horizon only a few minutes from the town center, take a walk down the road Strandvägen. The Nynäshamn area is also full of interesting historic sites, such as rune stones and other ancient monuments. Today’s culture is very present as well, with opportunities to experience folk dancing, handicrafts and art.
