In the MunicipaIity of Nynäshamn there are 17 public and 4 non-public pre-schools, leisure-time centres and family day-care homes. Some kind of childcare is always available, in Nynäshamn as well as in Ösmo, Sorunda and Torö. Opening hours: 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. on weekdays.

Pre-school constitutes the first step into the educational system and life-long learning. In pre-school, children aged 1-5 enjoy a safe environment offering play and other activities. The activities take place in units with 1-5 sections.Family day-care homes accept children aged 1-5. A child-minder receives the children in his/her home. Staff and children also work in groups and meet regularly at common premises. Pedagogy takes its starting point in the basic needs of the children and the demands of everyday life.The care of school children (leisure-time centres) welcomes children aged 6-12. Activities take place in each school during lesson-free parts of the day and during holidays.Non-public childcare exists at some pre-schools and leisure-time centres in the municipality. More information on pedagogical aims, queues and fees can be obtained from respective pre-schools.The open childcare activities at "Hägern", built on parent participation, are to be found at Estövägen 2 in Nynäshamn.The open pre-school in Ösmo co-operates with the Family Centre, where pre-school teachers and a counsellor work.The Family Centre is a meeting-point for children and parents, giving opportunities for children to play and adults to talk. Pre-school teachers, a nurse from the child welfare centre, a counsellor and a lay welfare worker take part in the activities.
